What Do You Know About “Clean Energy”? Why Is It Called So?

The term “Energy” is very familiar to us, which means the ability of something to do work. For our everyday work, we have to use different types of energy, like light energy, heat energy, thermal energy, etc. There is another example of energy named “Clean Energy.”

Many of us don’t have a clear concept about “Clean Energy,” which is a burning issue at present. “Clean Energy” means the energy we get from natural resources, which has no harmful effect on the atmosphere. The usage of this form of energy is a must for saving us from global warming.

So we need to gather knowledge about this topic. In this article, we are going to describe all about “Clean Energy.”

Clean energy

“Clean Energy” refers to the type of energy we get from renewable resources and is also known as “Renewable Energy.” Renewable resources mean the resources which will never come to an end, such as sunlight, wind, tide and waves, rain, and geothermal heat. We get all of these resources as a gift of nature; thus, they are also known as “Green Energy.”

The form of energy we get from these natural resources helps in reducing pollution. The energy source that we use in our daily work causes a lot of damage to our environment; even some of them are causing global warming.

Global warming means the increasing temperature on the earth’s surface by the emission of different kinds of greenhouse gasses. Global warming leads to climate change on earth, which is a threat to human life.

It is very important to reduce the emission of greenhouse gasses from different energy sources, to save our existence in this world. Increasing the use of Clean Energy is a vital way to protect human life from this threat.

Different Sources of Clean Energy

As we said before, we can have clean energy from various natural sources; among them, wind, sunlight, tide, geothermal, and hydropower are most efficient.

Now we are going to describe how we can get energy for our daily usage from these sources.

Wind

Wing energy means the energy we can generate by using wind power. The demand for using wind power is increasing with the time being. Wind is a renewable energy source from which we can generate clean energy in the form of mechanical energy.

We can use the wind to produce electricity by using a large turbine. When the turbine rotates due to the flap of the wind, the wind power transforms into mechanical power. Within the rotation of the blades of the turbine, a shaft connected to the gearbox starts triggering.

The wind energy is transferred to the generator from the gearbox and converted into electricity.

Thus wind power can be used to generate electricity without doing any harm to the environment.

Solar

Solar power is the most renowned renewable energy which comes from sunlight. We can use solar power to generate electricity simply by using solar cells.

The electricity generation process from solar power uses Photovoltaic (PV). A small amount of electricity produces when sunlight hits the solar plates, which are made with a metal and a semiconductor.

There is a junction between the metal plate and the semiconductor. Though it is a very simple process, the main problem is it produces a small amount of electricity; about 2 watts. For mass usage, we need to set up a huge number of solar cells together.

Geothermal

Geothermal energy is another type of clean energy, which means the energy stored in the earth. When the heat is coming from sunlight strikes the earth’s surface, it is absorbed in the interior of the earth.

We can use this subterranean energy for cooking, heating, and even can use for electricity generation. The rocky strains are the reservoir of the geothermal energy as it forms by the hitting of the heat of rocks or waters.

Biomass

Energy can be generated from any kind of organic material like a plant or animal body, which is known as biomass. When any kind of dead plant or animal bodies remain buried under the ground known as a fossil, it produces various gasses.

We can get energy by directly burning these biomass materials. There is another way to have energy through biomass. We can generate electrical energy through these materials.

We need to burn them and then transfer the produced heat water into steam. Then by a steam turbine, we can generate electricity by biomass.

Hydropower

“Hydro” means water, and “Hydropower” refers to the power we get from water, also known as hydroelectric power. Electricity can be generated by using hydropower.

We can produce electricity by using the potential energy from a fast-moving water flow hitting on a turbine. When water flows at a high speed, then the potential energy converts into kinetic energy, which makes the turbine moving.

Then the mechanical energy produced by the moving turbine is used to generate electricity.

Ocean

We can say ocean power is a branch of hydropower that uses the long and sharp tide of the ocean. It is also called ocean thermal energy when we get the energy from ocean water by using the heat from the sun.

We can generate our desired energy from the tides of the ocean by processing with mechanical instruments. For the ocean thermal energy, we need to collect water from the heated surface of the ocean and then process by producing temperature difference.

Nuclear Energy

We can get nuclear energy by fission reaction by splitting the Uranium atom to generate energy. Nuclear energy never emits any harmful element to the air in the whole process; thus, it is counted as a clean energy source.

In the fission reaction, a huge amount of heat is released, from which we can produce electricity. Instead of doing any harm to the atmosphere, it absorbs a lot of harmful gasses from its surroundings.

Coal Energy

Generally, burning coal emits a huge amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. But in clean coal technology, carbon emission is controlling. The emitted carbon while burning coal is adopted and makes them grounded on the earth.

In this process, carbon cannot spread in the air as they are being grounded, so this coal energy production process is called clean energy, as this is eco-friendly.

Advantages of Clean Energy

Clean energy never emits any toxic gasses into the atmosphere; thus, it is eco-friendly.

As we are getting a never-ending source of energy free of cost, it reduces our expenses for energy production.

Clean energy sources are renewable; thus, we don’t need to be tensed about the availability of raw materials.

It can improve public health quality by doing no harm to the atmosphere.

Power station based on clean energy resources needs low maintenance cost.

Disadvantages of Clean Energy

The capacity of electricity generation by using clean energy is not enough to meet the demand of any large area.

Renewable energies are totally dependent on weather conditions, so it is uncertain when this energy will be available, and you can generate your desired amount of electricity.

So now, we know what clean energy is and also know about different sources of clean energy and their usage. Again we learn about the advantage and disadvantages of them.

In the present world, climate change is a burning issue that can affect the existence of human beings on earth. To save our own life, we need to increase the use of Clean Energy.
